The heptathlon started on Friday at the World Athletics Championships. Sandrina Sprengel is in twelve after the first two disciplines, Vanessa Grimm is already behind. The seventh competition day at a glance.
H llerty, high jump – Sprengel Stark, favorites at the top
Sandrina Sprengel was able to shine in the high jump and showed her best attempt this year with 1.77 meters. The 21-year-old worked with tenth and 941 points in the second discipline in the overall ranking, she goes into the shot put (from 1.30 p.m.) as twelfth (1977 points).
The lead with Anna Hall (USA) is the best athlete of the year to date, she did the best high jump competition with 1.89 meters and already has 2210 points on the account – but she was under her possibilities, was not satisfied with her performance. Her first pursuer is the living heptathlon legend Nafissatou Thiam (Belgium), the high jump specialist (best performance 2.02 meters) also crossed 1.89 meters and has 113 points behind Hall.
Vanessa Grimm did a disappointing start to the heptathlon. The 28-year-old didn’t go well over 100 meters hurdles, it got worse in the high jump. At 1.65 meters, she remained a whopping twelve centimeters below her seasonal best and was 21, after two disciplines, Grimm only ranked 22 out of 23 athletes.
H llerty, 100 meters hurdles – reasonable start for DLV duo
Both Grimm and Sprengel had remained in the first discipline over their best performances, but over 100 meters of hurdles did not start a bad start. Grimm finished sixth in the first lead in 13.74 seconds and ended up in 20th place in the overall account, for Sprengel it ran better in 13.60 seconds, she goes into the high jump than 14.
Defending champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson (Great Britain/13.44 seconds) left a good impression of the favorites, Thiam, who made the golden Olympic triple in Paris perfect last year, had to be satisfied with 13.61 seconds. The world’s best Hall started with a season best of 13.05 seconds, the fastest athlete was her compatriot Talijah Brooks (12.93).
