Armand Duplantis has already done it again: The Swedish superstar flew to the next pole vault world record, the third World Cup gold in a row and a new dimension at the World Athletics World Championships in Tokyo.

After his next world record show, Duplantis hopped up and down as opened, he roared out of his joy and let himself be celebrated extensively with the Swedish flag. The high-flyer once again underlined his exceptional position at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo and made his title hate trick perfect.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you, I have no words, I’m so happy”he called in the interior: “It is the biggest dream for me that has come true.”

The third attempt gives the extra kick

In addition to fame and honor, the two -time Olympic champion (Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024) takes home $ 170,000 prize money: 70,000 for the title, 100,000 for the record.

In the sports show interview, he celebrated his gala performance: “It was a very special atmosphere in this stadium, which is of course inspired. Then jumping the record in the third attempt is an extra kick again, that’s pure fun!”

Silver for Karalis and wonderful pictures

Silver secured the Greek Emmanouil Karalis in a magnificent finale with 6.00 meters in front of the Australian Kurtis Marschall, who like Sam Kendricks (USA) mastered 5.95, but ultimately had a mistake in the luggage. Karalis was even very close to demanding Duplantis even more. After a torn attempt over 6.10, he had 6.15 on and only failed very thinly, as well as then 6.20.

For Duplantis, the World Cup triumph in Tokyo was its 37th victory in series. Most recently, on July 21, 2023, he hadn’t stood on the podium at a Diamond League meeting in Monaco. Immediately before the world record, there were wonderful pictures: Karalis sat next to Duplantis, spoke courage and provided him with a portable mini fan with cool air.

Entry height at 5.55 meters

For “Mondo” it was an extremely long competition over almost three hours. Already at 1:07 p.m. German time he took the initial amount of 5.55 meters into his warm -up program – it was the brand where, for example, German Torben Blech had already failed in qualification the day before.

Duplantis hovered over the crossbar with a felt cushion of 50 to 60 centimeters and looked extremely confidently. He then only started his next height at 5.85 meters – according to the computer evaluation, he is said to have been 19 centimeters from the latte, but this jump also looked significantly higher again. It was clear: something went that day.

At that time, however, the competition was still far from freezing in awe of the great master. Marschall still had no mistake at 5.90 meters, and he was in astonishingly large company with this amount: Sondre Guttormsen from Norway, like the Dutchman Menno Vloon, the Frenchman Thibaut Collet and Karalis, who had easily left both 5.55 and 5.75 to save strength.

Vloon unpacks the “Straddle”, Lavillenie spoke off

Vloon showed the most amazing technique from this field: at his 5.90 meters of your stomach, he wrapped himself over the crossbar, the whole thing was strongly reminiscent of the “straddle” known from older high jump.

For Vloon, however, this was the end station, but Duplantis did not only stay in this top -class competition: Marshal and Hendricks mastered 5.95 meters in the second attempt. Old master Renaud Lavillenie was also there at the time, but spoke: After skipped 5.75, he had released the 5.85 in terms of health, then over 5.90 even made one jump – but the 5.95 were ultimately too high.

Karalis reports back and fetches silver

It suddenly got very narrow for Karalis. The Greek that had such a form this year tore twice 5.95 meters and was on the fore – before he used his last attempt nervously and used the swing afterwards for 6.00 meters.

In the end, this brought him the silver medal: Marshal and Kendricks, like Vloon, Collet and Guttormsen, tried in vain on the 6-meter mark. However, the fact that seven athletes were still in the race at a major event at this sound barrier should go into history.

Lita Baehre creates 5.75 meters – and refuses three times

Bo Kanda Lita Baehre showed a competition that was characterized by a lot of struggle. He loosely took the initial height, then almost seemed at 5.75 meters. Two attempts looked laboriously, he did not really get on the speed when they started. In the third attempt, he easily vibrated the crossbar – but it remained and he confirmed his season best.

At the next height, the Düsseldorfer ran through with a harder rod in all experiments under the crossbar – in the end it was enough. “The whole competition had an incredible level, I can definitely take that as a motivation for the future”he summed up.
