Athletics superstar Jakob Ingebrigtsen celebrates his dream wedding

Dream wedding in the athletics scene! Superstar Jakob Ingebrigtsen and his girlfriend Elisabeth Asserson tied the knot at the weekend.

The wedding took place on Saturday at Bragernes Church in Drammen, Norway. The 120 guests then made their way to the Børsen party venue.

The marriage sparked huge media interest. When the newlywed couple came out of the church, not only fans and friends were waiting on site, but also numerous media representatives.

Ingebrigtsen’s brother Henrik even gave insights into the wedding. “The wedding was absolutely beautiful. A beautiful church and Jakob had a fantastic tuxedo and Elisabeth wore a beautiful dress,” he told “Verdens Gang”.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen seemed very touched during the ceremony. “I saw that it meant a lot to him. He was very focused. He was almost in competition mode,” joked brother Henrik.

The couple, who met at school and have been together for seven years, are spending their honeymoon in the Maldives. “I heard that Jakob and Elisabeth are going to a training camp in the Maldives,” noted Ingebrigtsen’s brother with a smile on his face. However, the photos that Asserson has posted on her Instagram story so far look more like a vacation than a training camp.

Things also went well for Ingebrigtsen in terms of sport this year. At the last World Athletics Championships in Hungary, the 1500 meter Olympic champion surprisingly missed out on his first World Championship title over his special route. Like last year, the 23-year-old Norwegian compensated for this with the World Championship title over 5000 meters.

At the Diamond League meeting in Brussels, the superstar broke the 24-year-old world record over the rarely run 2000-meter distance with a time of 4:43.13 minutes.

At the Diamond League final in Eugene, Oregon, Ingebrigtsen went one better and shattered one of the oldest European records. He won the mile in 3:43.73 minutes.
