The Belgian Isaac Kimeli and Deborah Schöneborn from Berlin celebrated victories at the traditional Trier New Year’s Eve Run.
At the 33rd edition, Kimeli won the men’s sprint in 22:18 minutes and improved the 25-year-old course record by Kenyan Isaak Kiriuki by three seconds.
Second place went to marathon European champion Richard Ringer from LC Rehlingen, who also set a German road running record over eight kilometers in 22:20 minutes.
As at the European Championships in Munich, Ringer was ahead of Amanal Petros from TV Wattenscheid (22:22).
In the women’s category, Schöneborn from SCC Berlin clearly won ahead of the Belgian Lisa Rooms.
With good running temperatures of 17 degrees, the European champion with the German marathon team was eight seconds ahead of Rooms and Martyna Galant from Poland after five kilometers in 15:56 minutes.
Gesa Krause says goodbye to baby break
In her last race before her baby break, Gesa Krause, who was third at the World Championships over 3000 meters obstacle course, took 20th place in 17:31 minutes from the host Silvesterlauf Trier eV.
Last year’s winner Katharina Steinruck (Eintracht Frankfurt) had to cancel her start at short notice due to a corona infection.
After a two-year break due to the pandemic, the traditional event took place again in downtown Trier.
