Tim Nowak and Sandrine Sprengel lead in the athletics all-around at half-time. The men’s decathlon is closely at the top. Manuel Eitel, which leads after three competitions, no longer has any titles. The heptathlon defender already leads significantly in women.
After five out of ten disciplines with 4049 points, decathlon favorite Tim Nowak is just ahead of Nico Beckers (4018) and Andreas Bechmann (3960). After the 100-meter run, long jump, shot put, high jump and the 400-meter run, the 29-year-old Ulmer has the best chance of the title. The paraded disciplines of the European EM ninth of 2024 are on the second day.
Crowning Career For Nowak?
The DM could thus become the last and crowning glory for Nowak. He wants to end his career after the season. Nowak’s personal record is 8282 points, the standard for the World Cup in September is 8,500 points.

Vain tears High jump in
The fact that Nowak is a favorite in the second day is also due to a drama that was about Manuel Eitel. The teammate from Nowak was ahead after three competitions, with victory over 100 meters. But in the high jump, the European Championship seventh from 2024 failed at his entry height. Eitel, whose personal best is 2.00 meters, tore three times at the height of 1.85 meters – and divided it. After his sitting out of the train for minutes, his hands buried deep into the face.
Wolff injures himself early
It also ended early for a second medal favorite: for Jannis Wolff, the dental campaign ended after the start. The Frankfurter suffered a muscle injury over 100 meters. Lying in the lead, Wolff picked up his thigh shortly before the finish and shortly afterwards gave the sign that it cannot go on for him.
Neugebauer and Kaul with a slimmed down program
The two best German decathlon, Leo Neugebauer and Niklas Kaul, are at the start in Dresden. The duo already qualified for the World Cup in Tokyo contests only a few competitions. “It’s not about the results, but about what we want to technically adapt and to test it under competition conditions”explained Kaul. Neugebauer added: “I know exactly where I am. I’m under construction, not in the high phase.” On Thursday, both only took part in the first three competitions, Neuebauer won the long jump (7.36 meters) and the shot put (15.79 meters).
Hiveathy: Sprengel with a big lead
For women, Sandrina Sprengel goes as the undisputed leader in the second day. The 21-year-old is far ahead of the competition after four out of seven disciplines with 3677 points. The second -placed Lara Siemer from Leverkusen is already 268 points behind Sprengel with 2409 points. Mareike Rösing has so far collected 3389 points.
Sandrina Sprengel in Dresden
Sprengel is the only German 6000-point seventh fighter at the finals in Dresden. The German annual Serina Riedel from SV Halle does not start two weeks after its bronze medal at the U23 European Championship. Sophie Weißenberg and Vanessa Grimm are also not at the start.
Two Sprengel victories on Friday
Sprengel should look forward to a safe title defense on Friday. Especially since she already got below 3 in all four disciplines on Thursday. The 100 meter hurdles (13.57 seconds) and the shot put (13.91 meters) won, in the high jump she became second (1.74 meters), over 200 meters she became third (24.36 seconds).
