Athlete Fabian ten Kate from Eelde takes silver at the northern championship in Drachten

Nearly 200 runners started the northern 10 kilometer road championship on Sunday morning at 11:00 am at the athletics track in Drachten. Almost 31 minutes later, the first champion was announced: Abdelfatah Dalal from Leeuwarden was the first to cross the finish line on the same track. His winning time was 30 minutes and 50 seconds.

Fabian ten Kate from Eelde ran to second place. His finishing time was 31 minutes and 28 seconds. The bronze went to Mechiel Zantema. The athlete from Goutum lost three quarters of a minute to the winner. Freek Hoolsema from Assen finished eighth in 33 minutes and 2 seconds. Jurre van der Vaart from De Wilp finished eleventh in a finishing time of 34 minutes and 2 seconds.

Jessica Oosterloo extended her title among the women. The athlete from Appelscha clocked 36 minutes and 29 seconds. Oosterloo crossed the finish line with a generous lead of 1 minute and 33 seconds over Trudy Veenstra from Boelenslaan. Fleur Baljet returned to Meppel with bronze; she was almost 2 minutes slower than Oosterloo. The Groningen runners Renske Linstra and Nynke Altena did not win any prizes. Linstra came fourth (38.26 minutes), Altena fifth (41.28 minutes).
