Looking for an outing during Ascension or Pentecost? Sniff on farming life during the open farm days. On Friday 30 May (the day after Ascension) and Monday 9 June (Whit Monday), farms, spread throughout the Netherlands, open their gates and doors to the public.

On those days is the eighteenth edition of the Open Farm Days. You can then take a look for free at 62 different farms between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Dairy company FrieslandCampina organizes the farm days. Only farmers who deliver milk to this company participate in the farm days.

Visit De Boer

During the open farm days you can see what a farmer or farmer’s wife is doing and you can participate in activities. Think of milk suit bowling, making a puzzle with solar panels, face painting and a (blind) tasting in the dairy bar.

The nearest farm is that of the Verboon family in the Weipoort. This is a nature reserve between Benthuizen and Leiden. There you can come and take a look at the dairy farm on Friday 30 May and get to know their seventy cows. Or go to the family in ‘t Hout in Moordrecht on Whit Monday where they show how a dairy farm works. On This ticket You see all the farms that participate.

Good to know

If you go to a farm you have to leave your own pets at home. It is also not allowed to enter deposited places on the farm. You can taste the dairy products for free, but you can also buy a cup of coffee or tea and (local) delicacies.
