The Kosovo national team will receive a bonus of one million euros if they qualify for the World Cup in the summer. Only one match separates the team from the Southern Balkans from the financial blessing promised by Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s government. The playoff final against Turkey will be played next Tuesday in Kosovo’s capital Pristina.

After the semi-final victory of the Kosovo team with coach Franco Foda against Slovakia last Thursday in Bratislava, a generous bonus is in prospect. After the dramatic 4-3 away win, the government will decide to transfer 500,000 euros at its meeting on Monday, Finance Minister Hekuran Murati announced on his Facebook page.
It is not known exactly how the bonuses will be divided. If you take the entire squad of players around the Bundesliga professionals Fisnik Asllani, Elvis Rexhbecaj and Co., together with the coaching and support staff, with a possible distribution of 1.5 million euros, each beneficiary would receive around 40,000 to 50,000 euros.
Should Kosovo actually qualify for the World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico by playing against Turkey, it would be an unprecedented success. The youngest country in Europe has never been represented at a World Cup or European Championship. It was created during the breakup of Yugoslavia and gained independence in 2008. The country is now almost exclusively inhabited by Albanians. It has only been a member of the international football associations FIFA and UEFA since 2016. With a squad value of 114.28 million euros, a comparison of all World Cup participants would place them between Canada and Egypt.
