At the game in Qatar: Mali’s Coulibaly suffers a heart attack

Doha (AP) – Mali’s national soccer player Ousmane Coulibaly suffered a heart attack during a league game in Qatar.

During the game between his club Al-Wakrah and Al-Rayyan, the 32-year-old collapsed shortly before the end of the first half and was then given emergency medical care on the pitch. The pictures show how an ambulance then drove onto the square. Coulibaly is in medical care, the league said in a statement and wished the defender a speedy recovery.

Coulibaly’s collapse brought back unpleasant memories of the Dane Christian Eriksen, who collapsed at the European Football Championship against Finland and had to be revived. The Argentine Sergio “Kun” Agüero from FC Barcelona recently ended his career as a professional footballer at the age of 33 because of his heart problems.

Coulibaly played for Mali for many years, but was not nominated for the Africa Cup. At club level, he was mainly active in France and Greece.
