At the Foro Italico off to the pre-qualifiers. Two 40-player boards

From Saturday to Thursday the tournament that is giving away places in the main draw of the Internationals or in the qualification one

From Saturday to Thursday 5th the Foro Italico comes alive with the final Prequalification tournaments that see 40 players each in the singles and that will give access to the 2022 IBIs thanks to the assignment of wild cards for the main draws and for the qualification draws masculine and feminine. Two men’s and women’s doubles scoreboards of 14 pairs each will also be organized. In the 2019 edition, the first Next Gen “derby” between Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti was staged in this context, but Matteo Berrettini and Lorenzo Sonego made themselves known in the preliminary stages as did Jasmine Paolini, Elisabetta Cocciaretto in the women’s field or Lucia Bronzetti.

Scoreboards

As required by the regulation, the 40 players who compete in the men’s pre-qualification draw are the 24 that emerged from the regional Open tournaments (all the winners plus the finalists of the tests who had the highest number of entries in 2019), the best 4 of the points classification based on the results in these tournaments – drawn up at the end of the stages completed by April 17 – and 12 wild cards assigned by the Technical Sector. There are then 4 “alternates” indicated by the Technical Sector who will be able to replace any waivers in the 40 and 4 others coming from the points classification (from 5th to 8th) that will be able to enter if, once the scoreboard has been filled in, there should be defections to the last. As for the composition of the women’s draw, also in this case 24 qualified players from the regional pre-qualifications, the first 8 of the points classification and as many wild cards of the Technical Sector.
