At the Endorfine Rosa Shocking festival, stories of women, sport and cinema

Land hopes of one young swimmer Indian who sees his future will waver with the arrival of first cycle. The commitment of two friends to excel in the biggest street dance competition in the world in Paris. The captain of the women’s team Iranian football detained at home by her husband’s lack of permission. The surf that changes the life of a young athlete forever Sri Lanka.

These are some of the 10 stories, all exciting and coming from every corner of the world, which this year will be screened during the 5th edition of the Shocking Pink Endorfine Festivalthe film festival conceived and curated by Laura Aimone which focuses on the world of women and that of sport, with independent films and short films. In Venice from 26 to 30 September 2022.

Sport as a starting point

The focus is on the female universe, the leitmotif is sport. Women from all over the world united by a passion, that of sport that becomes a means of expression, of emancipation, of freedom but also of greater understanding of oneself. Heterogeneous stories such as the protagonists and the sports represented, from fencing to snowboarding, from swimming in nature to ice climbing.

The athletes told are not necessarily established, but they are women who, through the chosen sports disciplines, find the strength of to challenge conventions, to question one’s own existence and to look beyond. Sport is a pretext to tell the reality: from violence in the home or in the locker room to climate change, from social unrest to war to exploitation of children, from disability to ethnic minorities, and so on. All while offering films with a high content of endorphins, stimulants and optimists.

“Those like me”: stories of women who changed their lives to be happy

The protagonists

The 10 films are independent and most shot by female directors. Like the Canadian Cassie De Collingrecently awarded the Peoples Choice Award at the Banff Mountain Film Festivals for her documentary Precious Leader Women in which he tells the story of native snowboarder for which success in sport opens a painful separation with its traditional culture. Or the Italian Domiziana De Fulvio than for his Sisterhood followed the teams of women’s basketball playing in the street fields a Beirut.

The review is divided by themes and daysduring which a short and a feature film (details in the gallery) will be screened at 17.30 with a rerun at 20.00, followed by a discussion / confrontation in the foyer of the Casa del Cinema – Pasinetti Video Library (Palazzo Mocenigo, S. Croce 1990 – 30135 Venice; tel. +39 041 2747140).
