Star consultant Mino Raiola has died at the age of 54. This was confirmed on his official Twitter account. Raiola underwent surgery for a lung condition at Milan’s San Raffaele Hospital last January and the player’s agent is said to have been under constant medical observation since then.
There was still excitement about Raiola on Thursday when the media reported on the consultant’s death. Shortly thereafter, his Twitter profile said: “Current health status for those who are interested: I am pissed off that they are killing me for the second time in four months. I seem able to be resurrected.” A few days later, however, he lost the battle with his illness.
“It is with infinite sadness that we announce the passing of the most caring and amazing football agent ever. Mino fought to the end with the same strength he mustered at the negotiating tables to defend our players. As usual, Mino made us proud and never noticed. Mino touched so many lives through his work and wrote a new chapter in the history of modern football. His presence will be missed forever. Mino’s mission of making football a better place for players continues with the same passion. We thank everyone for the tremendous support we have received during these difficult times and ask for respect for the privacy of family and friends at this moment of grief,” the family said in a statement.
