Asylum hotel in Albergen shot at, COA reports

A building in Albergen in Overijssel that will house an asylum hotel was recently shot at, probably with an air rifle. The building has many holes and gutters and downspouts are broken. The Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) has filed a report, a spokesperson confirms reports in Tubantia.

The damage to the currently vacant building was discovered on Tuesday, when a security guard saw a bullet hole in a surveillance camera. The door was also damaged. The spokesperson calls the shooting “dangerous, and it does not fit in a democratic constitutional state.”

Shelter for up to 150 people

On Friday, the Twente municipality of Tubbergen agreed to the arrival of the shelter in Albergen. The environmental permit required for this has been granted for five years. The COA bought the hotel in 2022. It should house an asylum shelter for a maximum of 150 people. There was a lot of opposition to the plans in the village. For example, a few residents have sued the municipality to receive compensation.

The police could not say much about it on Friday evening.
