Holleeder lived in hiding for years. “Why did that have to take ten years? Why didn’t I see my grandchildren grow up in a normal way? Why couldn’t we go to an amusement park? Why couldn’t we go to a cinema?”

Nobody knew what I looked like. Your face is important. If you don’t have that anymore, if you are faceless, you are a ghost. I feel like a ghost.”
Astrid Holleeder left anonymity last Wednesday. She came into the picture with her face at RTL Boulevard. At RTL Tonight she said she was very happy with that step. “I can’t explain how much life I have back. I feel that in my body and mind. In the run -up I really came back to life.” She added: “It was a long time ago that I was able to say that I am happy. Even if it takes a day, it has been more than worth it.”
