For a regular place in the German World Cup goal, Marc-André ter Stegen needs a change. But where is the DFB goalkeeper headed?
Marc-André ter Stegen was recently able to play in the cup, but he no longer has a regular place in Barcelona. But he urgently needs match practice for a World Cup ticket as number one, which is why a change in the winter is considered likely. The only question is where Ter Stegen could go.
As the Spanish newspaper “Mundo Deportivo” reports, Aston Villa and Girona FC are showing interest in the national goalkeeper. Those responsible at Premier League club Aston Villa are said to have already inquired about the keeper’s physical condition.
Ter Stegen had back surgery in the summer and had to take a break for several months. He is now fit again. A move to Birmingham would still not be without risk: at Aston Villa, Ter Stegen would probably compete with Emiliano Martínez for the place in goal. However, the Argentinean has recently had to repeatedly struggle with back problems and has been out of action several times.
In Girona, however, he would have less competition. A goalkeeper position could become available there in the winter – Dominik Livaković is about to leave. At Girona, however, a relegation battle would await Ter Stegen. The club is currently ranked 18th out of 20.
