Aston Martin hoping for ‘difficult conditions’

In the battle for sixth place in the Formula 1 constructors’ championship, Aston Martin was able to make up ground and collected 24 points in three races, while Alfa Romeo went away empty-handed.

In Mexico, however, Sebastian Vettel’s team could not continue this run, Alfa collected at least one point.

Four points separate them before the last two Formula 1 races of the season: Alfa Romeo comes in at 53, Aston Martin at 49. Nothing is lost yet, but nothing is won either.

“We’ve scored a lot of points lately, yes, but it’s not easy to overtake Alfa Romeo,” says Aston team boss Mike Krack and, with a view to Mexico, says: “We saw how fast they were this weekend – a lot, much quicker than us.”

“And we mustn’t forget either,” he adds, “that they were fast in Suzuka, they were fast in Texas, but they didn’t pull it together. So I think it’s going to be very difficult for us to catch them or even to overtake.”

Aston Martin: “We hope for difficult conditions”

“We’re hoping for difficult conditions, like you sometimes have in Brazil, because I think we’re pretty good at handling that as a team. It would surprise me if the decision in Abu Dhabi was made on the last lap, but four points is obviously a lot.”

This is especially true in the competitive midfield and with only two races left. “Four points means we have to get five more points because they finished fifth once. So it will be difficult but we will try,” said Krack.
