Asser Small Animal Breeders Club receives Royal Medal of Honor

The Asser Small Animal Breeders Club AKC has received a Royal Medal of Honor because of the 100th anniversary of the association, and because it fulfills a pioneering role in the province.

AKC was founded in February 1923 under the wings of the Asser Fancy Pigeon Association. A year later, the club continues independently under the name Asser Konijnenclub. Since 1984, that name has changed into what it is now, the Asser Small Animal Breeders Club.

Every year the association holds an exhibition of rabbits, fowl, dwarf fowl, ornamental and waterfowl, guinea pigs and fancy pigeons. She also contributes to various other exhibitions, including the annual Dierenparade Noordshow. This is a national exhibition for which breeders from all over the Netherlands and beyond come to Drenthe.

At its peak, the AKC had 340 members. Almost all surrounding associations originated from AKC. This regional function in combination with the 100th anniversary means that the association has been awarded the Royal Medal of Honor.

Provincial director Henk Jumelet handed over the medal of honor to the club this afternoon. This honorary medal is a token of appreciation, which can be awarded to associations, foundations or institutions. It stands for the respect and appreciation the King has for special merits of the recipient.
