The custody of the 80-year-old man from Assen who was arrested at the end of August for the death of his partner has been extended. The suspect stays stuck for ninety days longer.
More than two weeks ago the body of a 72-year-old woman was found in the Noord-Willemskanaal near Tynaarlo. Shortly thereafter, the 80-year-old partner of the woman was arrested. He confessed involvement in the death of the woman. What exactly happened is still unclear, but the Public Prosecution Service suspects the man of manslaughter.
The man and woman lived in an apartment complex on the Thorbeckelaan in Assen. According to other residents of the complex, the couple had problems. The woman would have wanted to leave him, but he would have taken her cards and passport.
At the beginning of December the man must appear in court for the first time.
