The 80-year-old Assenaar who was arrested this week has known to have something to do with the death of his partner. Her body was found in the Noord-Willemskanaal near Tynaarlo.

What his involvement is, the Public Prosecution Service (OM) can say nothing about that because of the current investigation. The Public Prosecution Service says he would suspect the man of murder or manslaughter. The man will stay stuck for fourteen days longer.

On Monday afternoon the body of the 72-year-old woman from Assen was found in the canal near Tynaarlo. The same day the police investigated an apartment complex on the Thorbeckelaan in Assen, after which the 80-year-old man from Assen was finally arrested.

According to local residents, the suspect and the victim were a couple who lived on Thorbeckelaan. The woman would have wanted to leave the man, but he had taken all her cards and her passport for that reason, one of them says. Local residents heard a man shouting on Monday that his mother was murdered.

The police are still investigating the Thorbeckelaan. The house has not yet been released, a police spokesperson said today.

This week, among other things, the Gallery and in the basement of the Trace Research residential complex was done in the house, at the Gallery and in the basement. The suspect’s car has also been seized.
