The South Korean national soccer team suffered a setback at the Asian Cup in Qatar. Coach Jürgen Klinsmann’s team couldn’t get past a lucky 2:2 (1:2) draw against outsiders Jordan on Saturday (January 20, 2024) at the Al Thumama Stadium in Doha.

South Korea’s equalizer in added time came with an own goal from Yazan Abu Al-Arab (90+1). Both teams now have four points after two games.

South Korea’s star striker Heung-Min Son gave Klinsmann’s team the lead with a penalty kick (9th). However, an own goal from Yong-Woo Park (37′) and a goal from Yazan Al-Naimat (45’+6) turned the game around before the break.

In addition to Bayern Munich star Min-Jae Kim, who played the full distance, Stuttgart’s Woo-Yeong Jeong from the Bundesliga also played. He came on as a substitute in the 69th minute. South Korea, last Asian champions in 1960, won 3-1 against Bahrain at the start. Jordan started the tournament with a 4-0 win against Malaysia.

The nations are playing for this trophy at this year's Asian Cup.
