It will take three months longer for the new building of the field service to be finished. The construction has been delayed by asbestos in the ground. The land has since been cleaned.
The asbestos was already found before Christmas during excavation work. This stopped construction.
According to the municipality of Aa and Hunze, it is not possible to find out where the asbestos comes from. “We know that at the location of the construction site has been a fen in the past. There is a suspicion that the ven was supplemented with asbestos -containing land at the time,” the Municipal Executive writes to the city council.
Cleaning the land cost 300,000 euros. This disappointment does not make the project more expensive, because the money comes from a separate jar for situations like this.
In total, the construction costs for the new municipal yard on the Rondkamp therefore remain at more than three million euros.
