As head coach: Rooney returns to ex-club DC United

After leaving Derby County

Wayne Rooney has found a new job after leaving England’s second division side, Derby County. The Englishman returns to the United States as head coach at his former club DC United. The club announced on Tuesday. Because Rooney has not yet received his work visa, interim coach Chad Ashton will continue to lead the team for the time being.

“Having been with us as a player for two years means he knows our league and what it takes to be successful in Major League Soccer. The passion he showed during his time in Black and Red has electrified our city and club and we are delighted to have him back as head coach,” club owners Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan said in a statement . Rooney made 52 appearances (25 goals/14 assists) for DC United in his final years as a professional between 2018 and 2020.

The Washington Post recently reported that the English football icon would earn around one million euros a year, making Rooney the highest-paid coach in the club’s history. For the Englishman, the club in the capital is the second station as head coach, having previously left Derby County of his own volition after 84 games and with an average of 1.14 points per game.
