Borussia Dortmund has committed the first new signing for the coming season. Algerian national player Ramy Bensebaini (28) is moving from league competitor Borussia Mönchengladbach to BVB on a free transfer and signed a four-year contract on Monday (June 5, 2023).

“Ramy is a player in his prime, he has gained a lot of national and international experience in the Bundesliga, the French Ligue 1, the Champions League and the Europa League and is also an integral part of the selection of his home country,” said sporting director Sebastian Kehl: “We are sure that his sporting development is not over yet.”

Substitute for Guerreiro

Left-back Bensebaini is set to take over the role of Raphael Guerreiro in Dortmund, who had turned down a contract extension. The 53-time national player switched from the French first division team Stade Rennes to Gladbach in 2019.

He played 113 competitive games (25 goals) for the foals. “I know what BVB is capable of and I’m sure that we as a team will build on the second half of the past year,” said Bensebaini.

He played 95 league games for Gladbach, scoring seven goals and scoring 19 goals himself. In 2019, Bensebaini moved from Stade Rennes in France to the Lower Rhine for around eight million euros.
