Artistic gymnast Sarah Voss wins second all-around title

With a start-finish victory, Sarah Voss from Cologne secured the title in the all-around at the German Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Berlin.

Cheering fists and raised arms: When the last tones of the Queen classic “The Show must go on” had faded away, Sarah Voss could already feel like the gymnastics queen of Berlin after her freestyle. The 22-year-old from Cologne won the all-around title for the second time after 2019 at the German championships as part of the “Finals”.

“I’m really happy, I haven’t unpacked everything yet. I’m already very satisfied, regardless of whether there are more medals at the weekend,” said the new title holder on the “ZDF” microphone.

Concentrated to the tips of her hair, the student set the standards from the very first device. And she benefited from the fact that her main competitor Kim Bui from Stuttgart missed the upper bar with her hands on the uneven bars and fell.

Nevertheless, it was enough for the 33-year-old “Queen Mum” of German artistic gymnastics to take second place behind Voss. Emma Malewski from Chemnitz secured third place in front of the new national coach Gerben Wiersma.

Seitz dispenses with balance beam and floor

Elisabeth Seitz (28) was not able to intervene in the all-around decision this time. Due to a lack of training, the Stuttgart native decided not to start on the balance beam or on the floor. On the uneven bars, the German record champion climbed the daily high with 13.50 points and easily reached the final on Saturday.

Pauline Schäfer-Betz from Chemnitz also missed two apparatuses, but the Vice World Champion on the balance beam should still be a fixture at the European Championships in mid-August as part of the European Championships in Munich. Like Seitz, the 25-year-old is also in the medal decision-making process on her special apparatus.

Just five days after her two bronze medals at the European Championships in Tel Aviv, gymnast Darja Varfolomeev had already secured her first national title in the all-around at noon. The 15-year-old student won ahead of defending champion Margarita Kolosov from Potsdam and Melanie Dargel.

With all four handsets, Varfolomeev received the highest marks. Last weekend she secured the first German EM medals in rhythmic gymnastics in 42 years with her two third places with the ball and clubs.

The German championships will continue on Saturday (11:30 a.m. / ARD) with the first five apparatus finals in artistic gymnastics.
