Nineteen emerging and established Dutch artists contributed to the exhibition New Dutch Horizons. The artists use their works to show their vision of the nature and culture of the Netherlands. The exhibition should introduce travelers to the versatility of our country.
For example, there is a typical Dutch landscape with a cycling lady, designed by Noël Loozen. Artist Dion Rosina from Heemskerk made a typical Curaçao country house and Amsterdam’s Jennifer Tee inspired her work on old Indonesian art.
Although most travelers hurriedly walk past the art wall, a few turn around to take a photo. “I think it’s very beautiful. It hides the work so well,” says a young traveler. “It’s really cool.”
Activities
“It will take us more than a year to complete the renovation and that would mean that our passengers would be looking at a very large construction bulkhead for more than a year,” says director Arthur Reijnhart of Schiphol Commercial about the motivation for realizing this exhibition. “In addition to being beautiful works, it also brings peace to the terminal. It is already busy enough here.”
The New Dutch Horizons exhibition can be seen until the renovation is completed, expected in June this year, and will then be moved to a new location. “We are going to find a nice permanent place for all these works,” says Reijnhart. It will be a challenge to find a suitable place.
“We don’t have that many places of 250 meters at a stretch, but we will find them. Because this is not something you only want to use temporarily.”
