Art, photography, dance and a documentary film. The events in Brescia, Milan and Rome

miseria&Nobility. Giacomo Ceruti in eighteenth-century Europe offers a new look at the figure of the Milanese artist (better known as Pithocket), famous for having portrayed the humblest classes, highlighting the contradictions of the society of the time.

The exhibition is divided into a hundred works, of which 60 by Ceruti and the others by previous and contemporary authors (Bellotti, Ribera, Fra’ Galgario…) with which he establishes comparisons. There are portraits of portaroli (boys who did hard work), youthful ones, those from the Venetian period. A particular set-up is dedicated to the Padernello Cycle (14 magnificent canvases with a pauperistic subject).

Of the homage to the artist are also part Imaginary Ceruti. The prints of the painter’s workshop And David Lachapelle for Giacomo Ceruti. Nomad in a beautiful Land (at the Pinacoteca Tosio Martinengo), an intervention by the American photographer on the work of the Lombard painter.
