The investigation into the cause of the major fire last weekend in the center of Hoogeveen is still in full swing. According to the police, arson has not yet been ruled out: “We are keeping all scenarios open,” a spokesperson said.
On the night from Saturday to Sunday, a fire broke out at an apartment complex on Jonkheer de Jongestraat around 1 a.m. The fire probably started in a car parked under a carport.
The fire spread to the residential complex. Eight homes were evacuated. Two of the houses were damaged. By morning the fire brigade had the fire under control.
According to the police, forensic investigators conducted an extensive investigation at the apartment complex on Sunday, but no conclusions can yet be drawn. The investigation continues and the police are calling on witnesses to come forward if they have information or images.
