Not everyone at De Ark caravan camp in Emmen will have experienced it last night, but the fire that broke out around 04.20 am in the building in which the neighborhood association is located is the talk of the day at the camp today. Thanks to the decisive intervention of the fire brigade, worse was prevented, but the incident will probably have a tail.
“Fortunately, the damage is not that bad, the fire brigade was there in time,” says Janneke Brink, who is active as a volunteer in the community center. “But it could have turned out very differently, because the fire was accidentally discovered by someone who had to go to work last night and called the fire brigade,” she says. When Brink – who was also informed – took a closer look himself, the fire was already extinguished.
She doesn’t want to think what the consequences would have been if the fire on Van der Meulenweg at the trailer park had not been discovered by chance. “The community center borders on the football fields of WKE’ 16 on one side, but on the other side are a number of caravans. But imagine if the fire had spread from the canteen to the caravans. Honestly? I don’t even want to touch that think.”
