National player Kai Havertz has become a tragic figure in a cup thriller with Arsenal FC.

The attacker was the only shooter to miss a penalty in London’s third-round exit against defending champions Manchester United on Sunday; the record champions won 5-3. After 90 minutes the score was 1-1 (0-0) and no goals were scored in extra time.

ManUnited’s goalkeeper Altay Bayindir made a strong save on Havertz’s attempt. The Turk had already saved a penalty from Martin Odegaard in regular time. Since the yellow-red card for Diogo Dalot in the 61st minute, Arsenal had been in the majority for a long time.

United captain Bruno Fernandes (52nd) gave the record champions the lead. Arsenal quickly took advantage of their superiority and Gabriel (63′) promptly equalized for the Gunners. Odegaard (72nd) missed the lead from the point. Arsenal then pressed for victory. But the guests were able to save themselves in a penalty shootout.

Havertz had a bad day. Even before his missed penalty, the 25-year-old had missed good opportunities.
