Arriva can continue to run the trains between Emmen and Zwolle. Qbuzz and Keolis also had ears to ride on the two regional railway lines in Drenthe and Overijssel from the end of 2028, but they fish behind the net. The traveler must take advantage of extra trains, among other things.
According to Henk Jumelet, deputy in Drenthe (CDA), De Lijn is ‘The prelude to the Lower Saxony Line’. That is the railway line that connects Enschede and Groningen, via Hardenberg.
The route between Zwolle and Emmen has been known for years for its many nuisance. This is partly caused by Safeelanders from the registration center in Ter Apel. Last year more than 1,300 black riders were caught. There were 29 serious violent crimes, such as abuse, intimidation or forbidden possession of weapons.
Earlier it was announced that the railway between Emmen and Zwolle will continue under the name RRreis. Trains and buses are already mentioned in parts of Overijssel, Gelderland and Flevoland. The three provinces want the regional public transport all in the future to continue under the name RRreis.
From the end of 2028, Arriva will also run with an extra early train (departure 5.23 hours from Zwolle) and an extra late train (on Friday departure 00.53 hours from Zwolle). The intention is that travelers will soon be able to take a train every half hour.
In addition to the Emmen-Zwolle route, the Almelo-Mariënberg route has also been assigned. Arriva, Qbuzz and Keolis have all made a pray to be allowed to ride on the two railway lines. The provinces of Drenthe and Overijssel, which put millions of euros in the regional rail connections every year, chose the winning railway company this afternoon. It is a contract (‘concession’) for fifteen years, valid from the end of 2028 to 2043.
