Arrests around De Kuip in Rotterdam for cup final Ajax-PSV

The police made at least fifty arrests on Sunday afternoon ahead of the cup final between Ajax and PSV that was played in De Kuip in Rotterdam. According to a police spokesman, three quarters of the cases involved people who tried to smuggle fireworks and flares into the stadium. The rest involved insult, discrimination and destruction of a toilet bowl in the stadium.

Supporters of both clubs managed to smuggle fireworks into the stadium. Fireworks were set off behind both goals at the start of the match. Because of the smoke development, referee Dennis Higler allowed the game to start a few minutes later.

The police spoke of a good atmosphere around De Kuip before the match and reported that no disturbances occurred after the match. “We are quite happy with what this day has brought.”

PSV won the cup final against Ajax on penalties.
