The police and an arrest team of the Special Interventions Service (DSI) raided a campsite on Noordhoekstraat in Schaijk on Sunday afternoon. After a report from a man who would have been injured there by someone with a firearm, the police pulled out in a big way. On the spot the case turned out to be very different and even the reporter, who occurred as a victim, was arrested as a suspect.
The man, who lives on the campsite, called the police on Sunday afternoon and indicated that there was a suspicious situation. He would have been injured and there might be a firearm in the game. “For that reason we took the report so seriously that we have committed full commitment to the DSI,” says a spokesperson.
The police and the arrest team investigated at the campsite and spoke with the victim and witnesses. There turned out to be little going on on the spot. In fact, the police discovered that the man himself would have committed a theft elsewhere. He was arrested for that.

The police cannot say where that theft took place. That is currently being investigated. And also why the man initially reported a mistreatment. According to the police, he did have bruises on his body. “It is difficult to say whether those were now or a few days ago,” says the police spokesperson. “It could be that he ended up in a struggle with that theft. We are now sorting it out.”
