Arminia Bielefeld separates from sports director Samir Arabi: “New impulse”

Head of sport is leaving after 12 years

Arminia Bielefeld and head of sport Samir Arabi are going their separate ways with immediate effect. This was officially announced by the second division club on Monday evening. The 44-year-old suggested the separation himself to make a fresh start possible. Arabi took over as sporting director in April 2011 and was promoted to sporting director in September 2016. From the 3rd league he led Bielefeld back to the Bundesliga in 2020, after being relegated last summer, Arminia is again fighting for relegation in the 2nd league.

“I’ve always been passionate about working for Arminia and experienced numerous special moments during that time. In the current critical sporting situation, I would like to make a personal contribution with my retirement so that a new impetus can be given at a central point in the club. I’m grateful for many years of trusting cooperation and I’ll keep my fingers crossed for Arminia that things will pick up again quickly,” said Arabi.

The Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Hartmut Ostrowski, added: “We are all aware of Samir Arabi’s outstanding service to Arminia Bielefeld since he began his work in 2011. For this and for his great personal commitment, we owe him our thanks and our recognition. His work ultimately brought us back to the Bundesliga in the summer of 2020. In the analysis of our current situation, we once again exchanged ideas openly and trustingly. At the end of our talks, we came to the mutual decision to separate. We want to fill the position of the main person responsible for sport at the DSC and will hold corresponding talks. In the short term it’s all about staying up. All forces must be pooled to secure the 2nd Bundesliga for Arminia Bielefeld.”
