Arminia Bielefeld apologizes after riots

Arminia Bielefeld apologized for the behavior of his supporters after the riots in the first leg of the relegation to the second division at SV Wehen Wiesbaden.

“We apologize to our hosts in the sporting competition,” said Bielefeld. The behavior was an “unacceptable crossing of borders”.

Some supporters of the second division soccer team caused the game to be interrupted for around 20 minutes in the 4-0 defeat on Friday evening because they repeatedly shot pyrotechnics onto the lawn and tried to storm the pitch.

Friday night “sportingly disillusioning”

“We distance ourselves from any form of violence, we condemn the firing of flares from the block and the firing or throwing of firecrackers on the pitch,” the club said in a statement. The incidents are now to be worked up together with the responsible authorities.

The Friday evening was also “sportingly disillusioning” for the Bielefeld team, but now in the second leg on Tuesday (8:45 p.m.) it is important to “show attitude in the sporting competition,” emphasized the club.
