In the Flemish Brabant town of Humbeek near Grimbergen, some armed men robbed Krëfel’s headquarters this morning. Mayor Bart Laeremans confirms this. Several employees were gagged during the robbery. An employee was forced by the robbers to help them steal laptops.

“An armed robbery was committed at Krëfel’s head office in Humbeek between 11 and 11:30 am,” says Sabine Lievens of the Halle-Vilvoorde public prosecutor’s office. The site not only houses offices, but also a distribution center. “A truck from the electronics chain that drove into the depot was followed by a van. This is how the robbers entered the site.”

“Three masked perpetrators then entered the depot and at least one of them had a firearm, a revolver type. The employees present were gagged. One of the employees was forced to load goods into the van in the warehouse. To get back outside, the perpetrators stole two employee badges. The robbers fled with a white van, of which there is no trace for the time being,” said Lievens.

According to the public prosecutor’s office, the entire robbery lasted about an hour and a half. “The exact loot is not yet known, but it concerns dozens of laptops,” said Lievens. “No one was injured, but the employees involved are in shock and very impressed.”

Panic attack

Mayor Bart Laeremans (Renewal) reports that one employee had a panic attack during the robbery. An ambulance was called, but the person did not have to be removed. The federal police and the judicial laboratory are currently on site to investigate the facts. That investigation is still ongoing. Camera images are examined, among other things, to determine the escape route of the perpetrators.

No one at Krëfel is currently available for comment. According to Mayor Laeremans, the team that was supposed to work at the headquarters in the afternoon has been given time off. Tomorrow morning there would be work on the site again.
