Arjen Lubach is running quite a risk now that the man who brought him to RTL 4, Peter van der Vorst, is out. At least, that’s what TV critic Victor Vlam says. “Is his successor also a fan?”
Peter van der Vorst has been promoted: after his blunder with the late evening of RTL 4, he has to hand in his position as channel boss. It is not just the RTL Tonight debacle, but also the signing of Arjen Lubach. After a year with the commercials, he still breathes VPRO and is a complete mismatch with the popular RTL audience.
Arjen unsure
Arjen’s viewing figures and impact have been disappointing since he left the public broadcaster and he also ensures that RTL 4’s late talk show starts very late. He has now become more of a problem than an asset, and sooner or later that will have consequences. Especially now that Peter has to leave the field.
TV critic Victor Vlam writes X: “The departure of a program boss brings a lot of uncertainty for the presenters. Lubach was brought in by Peter van der Vorst. The question is whether his successor is an equally big fan. If not, that could mean fewer opportunities.”
Relegation
In any case, something will happen to Arjen, Victor thinks. “Or a relegation to 11 p.m., after the RTL talk show. If the contract allows that, of course. These are the moments for which contracts are extensively negotiated. Because a new program boss will want to leave his mark on RTL4.”
He continues: “For people who are used a lot now – including Beau, Carlo, Chantal and Ruben – it will be exciting in the near future. For presenters who are used less, including Renze, this may be a new beginning.”
Not sad
TV authority Tina Nijkamp also thinks that Renze Klamer is happy. “Renze will probably not be very sad about the departure of Peter van der Vorst. Consequences for RTL Tonight?”
“I think that RTL will use January at the behest of DPG to change the show. And then from February onwards there will be a talk show with the names of the presenters. Perhaps including Renze. After all, his boss Peter will soon no longer be talking about it…”
