Arjen Lubach not only causes today’s Inside men, but also with media aritor Victor Vlam for bewilderment with his very fast workbreak. “A million euros a year!”
After only six (!) Membership weeks at his new employer RTL 4, according to Arjen Lubach, it is already time for vacation. He squeezes it for a week, just now that the school holiday has ended again – an awkward timing. Are those twenty minutes of television a day with comfortable working weeks of just four days really so heavy?
“This is bland!”
Victor Vlam thinks it is really unnecessary. He would not have approved this if he was channel boss Peter van der Vorst. “That man worked hard for six weeks, Lars. Work six weeks in a row! Four days a week! Well, then it is also time for vacation! Time to relax!”, The Mediacriticus shouts cynically.
His co-host Lars Duursma in the podcast The Communicado’s: “I think this is faint. This has been announced from the start: six weeks, then not a week and then again for a few weeks. This is exactly the same thing that American comedy shows do, isn’t it? There you also regularly have that there is no broadcast for one or two weeks.”
22 weeks
Victor does not think that is the same. “Because with his late show, Stephen Colbert makes many more episodes a year. I think he is on something of 39 weeks a year. I think Arjen Lubach is at 22, so that is really a world of difference. I would think: it would be possible to work for eleven weeks in a row at four days a week?”
Lars on that: “I think it is actually smart. I can imagine that you want to evaluate what is going well in the beginning after six weeks and what is going better. It is very difficult to do that if you have to make a broadcast again the same evening.”
Million euros
Really totally unnecessary, Victor believes that. “You can also do that on Friday if you don’t have a broadcast? Let’s not forget: so he gets a big salary, isn’t it? That will be close to a million euros. I also think you can work for that.”
He concludes: “This is set up to give Arjen Lubach the opportunity to relax. Well, with such a salary: I think it is really exaggerated. The VI men really work for months in a row, months in a row. They started in January and in three weeks the summer break is a million a year, boys!”
