Patty Brard understands why Arjen Lubach’s viewing figures are under pressure, while fellow genre member Even Tot Hier is still scoring off the charts. “It’s not highbrowyou know.”
It turned out to be a cat in a poke for RTL 4: the overpaid Arjen Lubach. He currently only has around half a million linear viewers on the TV channel’s late evening, while fellow genre Even Tot Hier is still a big hit. Last weekend, 1.7 million linear viewers watched the premiere of the new season.
Not high brow
Patty Brard is not surprised. “It’s very accessible. I mean: you pick out a few topics, like Yvonne Coldeweijer, and then you still want… It’s not highbrowyou know. It’s not nice,” she says Show news.
Presenter Dyantha Brooks: “They know how to process the Allowance Affair in a kind of Jip-and-Janneke way.”
Colleague Bart Ettekoven: “Yes, that you also understand it.”
Satisfying
Studio guest Kees de Bever thinks Even Tot Hier is very original. “You have so many media writing and talking about the same subject, but it never comes close to how they do it.”
Patty: “They have it once a week, right? Then you have a whole week to prepare for it. If you have indeed had a media week like this, then it is very grateful.”
More sophisticated
Bart thinks that Even Tot Hier is everything in one. “Everything was there. You also notice that in times of war people just want to watch something that they can laugh about. People just need that.”
He continues: “The combination of humor and hard news also works. You can see that in Dit Was Het Nieuws, which has also scored above a million for years. It is perhaps a little less accessible.”
Patty: “I think that’s a bit more sophisticated.”
Ten times better
Patty thinks that the men of Even Tot Hier really outclass their fellow genre Arjen Lubach. “I have to be very honest: when I see this tonight and I see an Arjen Lubach like that, I think: yes… I think so…”
Bart: “I would prefer this ten times over.”
Patty concludes, “Right. I didn’t want to say it out loud, but I’ll say it out loud anyway.”
