Arjen Lubach gets two important media times over him because of the somewhat childish promos with which he announces his RTL 4 debut. “I think it’s a bit infantile,” it sounds.
There is remarkably little noise about Arjen Lubach’s nearby debut on the late evening of RTL 4. The presenter has been doing a bit the same on television for years and there seems to be little change in the commercial. The only difference is that he will earn a lot of money and for the time being that does not do much with his image.
Childish
Arjen himself seems to be the busiest that he comes over from the public broadcaster, because there are now all funny announcements in which we see the presenter of very far to present his talk show at RTL 4. We see him flying over the world to finally end up in his talk show suit again.
What does Angela de Jong think? “A bit childish. I think it’s a bit infantile. Then he shoots in his suit,” she sniffs in the AD Media Podcast. “I really wish him all the good. It is one of the most creative makers we have, but I think he belongs to the public broadcaster.”
‘Pretty weird’
Tina Nijkamp, her counterpart at De Telegraaf, agrees. “The promo is already running and that promo, I have to say that: I think that is pretty strange, and not at all,” she says in the podcast Tina’s TV UPDATE. “I don’t know very well what the promo wants to communicate.”
“The promo is then: he comes from far. That means: he comes from the NPO. And that is it. I think it is primarily a message for the team itself instead of a message to the viewer, because what can the viewer save it? He is not at all involved that he comes from the NPO.”
Exaggerated
Arjen makes it bigger than it is, according to Tina. “I think it will be very exaggerated and I think the team is far too concerned about that. I would say: make a nice show and a promo as it always went, up-to-date, instead of a video clip-like state. I don’t think it is a very good promo.”
The Arjen show starts on Monday. “The tension will rise. We know that Lubach has already taken a number of pilots for that show and I expect good viewing figures. I don’t think it will be very much collecting compared to his NPO score. The competition has not increased very much either.”
Mismatch
Tina points out that the competition is actually exactly the same. “He is simply opposed to Bar Laat and that is not a big competitor. And at NPO 1 he was already opposite VI. For him there is not very much changing.”
Angela is a bit skeptical: “I am just very curious how he will do it there. I am very happy to be surprised, but I see the average buy without watch viewer … I don’t believe that is the same viewer as Arjen Lubach, but good.”

The conscious promo:
