The almost 50-year-old Arie Boomsma may no longer have his own TV program, but his numerous attempts to score media attention are successful. First he did that by jumping in all kinds of ice baths, then he started playing the Loch Ness monster in the streams of Abcoude and now he calls attention to his tape hobby.

Teun critical

Arie has let the whole world know that nowadays he mows the grass with masking tape on his mouth and that he even goes to bed with his mouth taped shut. Dangerous, says Teun van de Keuken. “So it could be that you suddenly get a stuffy nose in the middle of the night and then you’re just dead.”

De Volkskrant columnist and presenter of Keuringsdienst van Waarde understands nothing of Arie’s hobby. “Yes, because according to him it is very unhealthy to breathe through the mouth. (…) It’s actually healthier until it kills you.”

Arie hits back

This Teun is very ignorant, Arie thinks. “If I get criticism with well-founded arguments, I take it seriously, but if someone says in the newspaper that taping your mouth shut is life-threatening without taking the trouble to find out, I can let that slide off me. ”, he sneered on Instagram.

Arie indirectly shouts that he thinks Teun is a very sour man. “You know, it’s so much fun trying, testing, learning and exploring things. That would always be my first step before I throw my judgment out into the world.”

‘I don’t watch TV’

Arie doesn’t give a damn about that criticism. He has turned his back on television, the medium to which he owes his current wealth. “I haven’t watched TV for eight years so I don’t get most of it.”

Arie knew very well that he provoked reactions with his tape-post? “Of course I know in advance that opinions will be divided. And even if it is in top sport and at health freaks has been common for years, for the TV viewer and piece writer such a piece of tape on the mouth is an intense image.”

“Tape your mouth shut!”

Does Arie have any tips for the Teun of the Kitchens of this world? “I myself would first tape my mouth shut before I say or write something about it. Or check the science.”

“But what was especially nice after that post is that there were so many reactions from dentists (who also recommend it a lot) and from people who benefit so much from it themselves: better sleep, no snoring, more energy in the morning, better resistance, less cavities, fresher breath, etc.”
