Bengalo fireworks at System of a Down in Germany? Serj Tankian & Co come to Germany-and those who have pursued the “Wake Up! South America” tour, which are exuberantly recorded by fans System of a Down give? In Bogotá, Lima, Santiago, Buenos Aires and São Paulo, this was ultimately not staged by the band, but enthusiastically commented by the fans. Gitarist Daron Malakian commented: “This is not a War zone, this is not a riot, this a system of a down style rock & roll concert in Brazil!”
System of a Down: Bengalos banned in Germany
Well-as great as the joy for the announced Germany shows is, Bengalo parties should not be expected in this country. Bengalos are considered “pyrotechnic objects” in Germany and fall under that Explosive law. Ignitance without permission is an administrative offense, and even a criminal offense if others endanger. Failure to finish fines up to 10,000 euros, in extreme cases-in 2015 the OLG Hamm confirmed about a conviction of 1 year 6 months in prison after a Bengalo campaign in Essen.
Those who do not let themselves be put on and still ignite Bengalos not only risks out of the cast, but also high fines and, in the worst case, even a criminal proceedings. In other words, the Moshpit stays with System of a Down in Berlin or Munich – the Bengal fire remains a South American specialty.
That is a shame, of course-after all, the band was more than enthusiastic about the South American Bengalo seas. Guitarist Daron Malakian enthused: “This is not a war zone, this is not a riot, this is a system of a down style rock & roll concert in Brazil!” And the band itself also wrote after the shows: “If you noticed: We don’t have a pyro on stage … but our fans do the fire.”
