Arctic Monkeys: Alex Turner has directed a video for There’d Better Be A Mirrorball

A few days ago, the Arctic Monkeys announced their seventh studio album: “The Car” will be released on October 21st and will contain ten new songs composed by Alex Turner. The record was created in different places: In addition to the RAK Studios in London and the La Frette Studios in Paris, the four musicians made some of the recordings in the former monastery Butley Priory in Suffolk, England. The full-length player was again produced by James Ford.

At their performance at Zurich Open Air, the Arctic Monkeys performed the second song on the record called “I Ain’t Quite Where I Think I Am” for the first time.

Now they have released their first official new single including a video shot by singer Alex Turner himself: Hear and watch THE CAR opener “There’d Better Be A Mirrorball” streamed here.

In an interview, Turner already spoke about the new record. Among other things, he said: “On this record, science fiction is off the table. We’re back on earth.”

The press release for THE CAR promises “some of the best and most impressive vocal performances” of Alex Turner’s career. On the band’s website THE CAR will be available as a limited gray marbled LP. “It’ll never be like ‘RU Mine?'”

Back in May, drummer Matt Helders gave an outlook on the colors of his band’s upcoming music. “It’ll never be like ‘RU Mine?’ and all that stuff, you know, the heavy riffs and stuff,” he said in an interview. Nevertheless, one can at least count on some riffs, according to the musician. The new pieces are again a little faster than the previous album by the alternative rock group. Roughly speaking, however, the songs will continue where TRANQUILITY BASE HOTEL & CASINO left off.
