Arco: 25 April with the Italian Club Championship

On 24 and 25 April in the province of Parma, the best 32 teams that qualified for the 21st Italian Club Championship will face off. To defend the title Malin Archery Team for men and Archers Città di Pescia for women

With the warmth of spring, the outdoor archery season kicks off, inaugurated by the Italian Club Team Championship, the first federal outdoor event, now in its twenty-first edition. The competition involves the best 32 Italian teams capable of qualifying for this event, 16 for the women’s competition and 16 for the men’s, and will take place on 24 and 25 April in the charming village of Montechiarugolo, in the province of Parma. The first day is dedicated to the arrival of the delegations and to the practice shooting, but the actual competition is held, as per tradition, on the day of the Liberation Day, on this occasion in the spaces in front of the Castle of Chiarugolo. At the end of the group matches, the semifinals and finals will move to a very suggestive setting, inside the castle moat.

The race

The club championship has a particular formula, designed to be played in iconic places, such as the village of Chiarugolo, considering that the targets are positioned 25 meters away, as in an indoor competition. Furthermore, the aim is to highlight the various types of bow, because each team compares the athletes of three distinct divisions: Olympic bow, compound bow and bare bow. Each team must consist of at least four archers, three starters, one from each division, with at least one reserve. The matches take place with the comparison between the shooters of the same division: at the end of the three-arrow volley between the two athletes, the winner gets the point for his team or, in the event of a tie at the end of the volley, a point is awarded each. By adding up the points of the three challenges between the six athletes of the two teams facing each other, the winning team of the match is decreed and earns the two points useful for the group classification. On closer inspection, the road leading to the top step of the podium is therefore quite long. There are two elimination rounds: the best two classified of the four initial rounds make up another two rounds of four teams which will see the best two then access the semi-finals. The third and fourth classified of the first group make up two more groups for the assignment of the support positions. Finally, at the end of the semi-finals, the regulation provides that the losers obtain the bronze medal, while the decisive men’s and women’s match will decide the two winning teams of the tournament.
