That’s what the statement says

Arcade Fire shared a short statement with their 521,000 followers on Instagram on Thursday, October 30th. It says Win Butler and Régine Chassagne went their separate ways after “a long and loving marriage.” However, nothing will change about their feelings for each other and their mutual admiration. They want to continue to look after their son together. In addition, their “connection as creative soul mates” remains – as does the band itself. The statement ends with “warm greetings” to their fans.

Allegations of “sexual misconduct” against Win Butler 2022

The split follows allegations of “sexual misconduct” against frontman Win Butler in 2022, as well as the departure of William Butler, Win’s brother and long-time member of the Canadian band, in 2021.

As NME reported at the time, five people accused the singer of “inappropriate behavior.” These accusations led to opening act Feist leaving the band’s tour early that same year. Butler responded with a lengthy statement in which he said he was “very sorry to anyone I hurt through my behavior,” but emphasized that “these relationships were all consensual.” Chassagne also released a lengthy statement defending her then-husband: “I know his heart and I know that he has never touched a woman without her consent and never would. I am sure he never did.”

Will Butler leaving the band in 2021

Will Butler described his decision to leave the band four years ago as “wonderful” in 2025. Arcade Fire was founded by Win Butler in Montreal in the early 2000s. Will joined the band in 2004 – before the debut album FUNERAL. He remained with the band for the next five albums and announced his departure when the sixth album, WE, was announced, before the allegations against Win were made public.

In the first half of 2025, Arcade Fire released their seventh studio album PINK ELEPHANT and gave a foretaste of it at the beginning of the year with the single “Year Of The Snake”. The band had previously presented the song at Willie Nelson’s “Luck Festival” and also presented the then-unreleased material at two concerts in Mexico City.
