TEHRAN (dpa-AFX) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has described his talks with mediator Pakistan as fruitful. The visit to Islamabad was “very fruitful,” Araghchi wrote on Platform X. He conveyed the Iranian position regarding “a workable framework for permanently ending the war.” At the same time, he questioned the seriousness of US efforts in the diplomatic process: “It remains to be seen whether the US is really serious about diplomacy,” he wrote.
Araghchi published the post just a few minutes after US President Donald Trump surprisingly announced on Truth Social that he would not be sending a US delegation to Pakistan. He remained vague about his reasons. He wrote that too much time was wasted traveling. The Iranian leadership is also divided. If the Iranians wanted to talk, they could just call. The USA also held all the trump cards.
Pakistan is mediating in the conflict between Iran and the USA. Islamabad is trying to bring about a second round of negotiations between the conflicting parties. Hopes for this rose on Friday after Araghchi arrived in Islamabad in the evening and the White House announced that it would send a delegation there on Saturday./vee/DP/he
