On the proposal of State Secretary Rutte of Justice and Security, the Council of Ministers approved the appointment of two new deputy college members for the Caribbean Netherlands at the Human Rights. It concerns Mrs. S. (Solange) Christiaan and Mr. G. (Gerald) Simmons-de Jong. The new deputy members of the college have been appointed for a period of three years.
The Commission for Human Rights is the national and independent institute that supervises compliance with human rights in the Netherlands, including the Caribbean Netherlands (Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba). The Commission does this through research, advice, education and information. In addition, anyone who feels discriminated against, in education or as a consumer, can report this or submit a complaint. In individual cases, the Commission finds whether there is discrimination in accordance with the equal treatment legislation.
