The Council of Ministers has approved the appointment of three Advocates General to the Supreme Court. Mr. RJ (Robert Jan) Koopman will be appointed with effect from March 1, 2024. He is currently acting Advocate General in the tax law section in which he will continue to work. Prof. Mr. LM (Lieke) Coenraad, currently senior judge in the Rotterdam District Court, will be appointed as of June 1, 2024 and will work in the civil law section from that date. This also applies to Prof. F. (Fatih) Ibili, who will be appointed on July 1, 2024. He currently works as a justice at the Court of Appeal in The Hague.

The most important task of advocates general at the Supreme Court is to reach so-called conclusions in cases pending before the Supreme Court. These conclusions are weighty legal advice to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court then makes the final decision. The advice of the Advocates General is not binding.
