Everyone in the Netherlands must be able to rely on good and safe care. The Healthcare and Youth Inspectorate (IGJ), as part of the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, therefore independently monitors the quality, safety and accessibility of healthcare and youth care in the Netherlands. Supervision with effect is paramount. The IGJ sets the agenda, encourages and intervenes where necessary and monitors on the basis of laws and regulations. The Inspector General is in charge, shows perseverance, provides clear direction, sets frameworks and strengthens ownership at all levels in the organization. This is necessary because healthcare in the Netherlands and the international market for medicines and medical devices are under pressure. Smart choices are needed to keep healthcare good and accessible, using digital innovations, among other things, and taking into account the limited capacity of healthcare workers. This also requires development and change in supervision. The Inspector General is ultimately responsible for this.
Drs. Monique Vogelzang has been Director General of Police and Security Regions at the Ministry of Justice and Security since April 2020. Previously, she was Inspector General of Education at the Inspectorate of Education at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. She previously held various management positions at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. She started her career at the municipality of Rotterdam. She studied Art and Cultural Sciences at Erasmus University Rotterdam.
This appointment was made through the procedure for the top management group of the General Administrative Service.
