Appointment of Director General of Rijkswaterstaat at Infrastructure and Water Management | News item

MH (Martin) Wijnen will become Director General of Rijkswaterstaat at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management. The Council of Ministers has approved the nomination on the proposal of Minister De Jonge of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. The appointment takes effect on January 1, 2024.

Lieutenant General Martin Wijnen has been Commander of the Army at the Ministry of Defense since August 2019. Previously he was Deputy Commander of the Armed Forces. He previously held various leadership and staff positions at top management level in large military units and at the Ministry of Defense. He was also program manager, National Counterterrorism Coordinator at the Ministry of Justice and Security. As an officer of the Engineer, Martin Wijnen held various operational and managerial positions within the field of mobility, construction and road and hydraulic engineering.

Martin Wijnen followed the Officers’ Training Course in Civil Engineering at the Royal Military Academy in Breda.

This appointment was made through the procedure for the top management group of the General Administrative Service.
