In order to increase the sales and export of animal manure, Minister Wiersma of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature (LVVN) has appointed Raymond Knops as envoy for promoting the export of animal fertilizers. Knops previously carried out an exploration to increase the permit grant for manure processing capacities. In the role as envoy, he first focuses on exports to surrounding European countries. For example, as the figurehead, Knops will lead three export missions in Europe, make international contacts and thus support the sales of Dutch manure products abroad.
Minister Wiersma: “Raymond Knops has international experience and has now gained a lot of knowledge in the field of manure and manure processing through his earlier exploration for manure processing capacities. He also put the opportunities for exports there. I am happy that he can support his new role in unlocking possible new markets for Dutch manure products. ”
In September, after trade missions, Knops will provide a short report on the export options to European countries.
Symposium manure processing and export
Export promotion of animal manure is one of the measures within the broader approach to alleviate the pressure on the manure market. The Ministry of LVVN is currently investigating the demand for Dutch manure products abroad. The results of this study – such as promising regions for the export of manure and the required regulations – are presented during a symposium on March 20, organized in collaboration with the Netherlands Center for Manure Processing (NCM) and Cumela. The LVVN Attaché network from potential markets will also be present. They will also prepare the export missions for interested companies. With these steps, the minister wants to unlock new markets and improve the sales opportunities for Dutch manure products.
Situation on the manure market
Manure export is one of the traces to illuminate the current pressure on the manure market. The Chamber Letter of September 2024 describes the complete package, which also consists of stimulating manure processing capacities, research into processing of animal manure in potting soil, renure, adaptation of nitrogen excretisorfaits and excavation when trading animal rights in various sectors. The manure export is an important track because animal manure contains useful nutrients for other regions that are looking for it. In addition to being a solution for the current situation on the manure market, it can also be a revenue model for the farmer.
